As the Seattle Kraken gear up for the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic against the Vegas Golden Knights, defenseman Adam Larsson has unintentionally become the face of their recent success, thanks to a unique fashion statement in the locker room.
Kraken players have been proudly donning black T-shirts featuring a photo of Larsson with a bowl haircut, creating quite a buzz in the team and among fans. This quirky trend coincides with the team’s impressive eight-game point streak, pulling them out of an eight-game winless slump and bringing them within three points of the second wild card in the Western Conference.
Larsson himself believes there might be a connection between the T-shirts and the team’s turnaround, stating, “We haven’t lost since. So, they turned the season around.”
The mystery behind the T-shirts was finally unveiled as Larsson disclosed that they were a playful revenge prank by forward Matty Beniers. Larsson had pranked Beniers a couple of weeks prior, and the T-shirts were Beniers’ creative payback.
“They’re hilarious,” commented Kraken defenseman Justin Schultz, who proudly keeps his T-shirt in his locker stall.
Larsson, despite the not-so-flattering photo, loves the T-shirts, which feature a picture taken by his girlfriend Vera a year or two ago. Beniers saw the photo on social media and thought it would be perfect for a T-shirt, sparking the hilarious team tradition.
While Larsson vows to get back at Beniers in the future, the playful side of the alternate captain is a surprise to those who only see his quiet leadership on the ice. Kraken coach Dave Hakstol acknowledged Larsson’s determined nature, stating, “His leadership doesn’t necessarily come through the things that he says. He’s a guy that’s well respected, and when there’s something to be said, he’s a guy that will speak up.”
The Larsson bowl-cut T-shirts have become a fun facet of the Kraken’s postgame celebrations, adding a lighthearted touch to the team’s success. As the Kraken prepare for the Winter Classic, the T-shirts serve as a humorous side story to what promises to be a memorable afternoon at T-Mobile Park.
“It doesn’t really feel like a regular-season game,” Larsson expressed. “It feels like a different kind of event. But I think everybody loves it, just to see in here the baseball locker room and all that kind of stuff. I’m sure tomorrow will be a lot of excitement, so it should be fun.”
